We want to install a surveillance camera in our business and be able to commect to it from our homes/cell phones via the internet which can be miles away.

What kind of equipment do we need to be able to to this? The store is not big so 2-4 cameras should be suffiecient. Thank you for you help.

Hello,

Once connected to the Internet, you can view your DVR/ cameras from anywhere in the world and the number of "miles away" really no longer becomes a concern.

Your main decision will be to get either an intelligent, or non-intelligent DVR system. Provided that you go with a high-quality system, either intelligent or non-intelligent systems will provide you with clear recordings and fast internet viewing capabilities. However... a non-intelligent DVR is more for say... " oh damn, something happened... let me see who did it" type of situation. If you are looking to be more proactive about things, an intelligent DVR system is more of a "wake up... something bad may be happening that immediately requires your attention" type of system.

Cost wise, you can expect to pay about $820 ~ $1050 for a 4-camera pro-grade non-intelligent system, and about $1600 for a four-camera pro-grade PC-Witness Pro intelligent DVR system. Take a look at http://cctvwholesalers.com/product.php?productid=16753&cat=279&page=1 .

If your company is family run, and you don't have to worry much about employees stealing from you, then you may only need a non-intelligent system. However, if you have emplyees or expensive inventory, and need to have more powerful, pro-active, than go with the PC-Witness Pro intelligent system.

Hit away with any more questions you may have... happy to help!

While I'm sure you mean well, what you describe is generally illegal unless you have your husband's consent to be listening to him. Best advice: speak with an attorney before anything else, just to make sure that you won't end up in any trouble.

Hello Wendy,

I am sorry for the troubles you must be experiencing, but given the legalities involving the use of audio monitoring, I do NOT recommend your putting an audio bug in your husband's truck... especially if you are in the United States! But before I go further, let me say that I am not an attorney, and not at liberty to give legal advice. However, I am happy to share my opinion with you in effort to save you from future uspleasantries.

Here in the U.S., there are Federal (and in many States – State and even municipal) laws, both criminal and civil, regarding the use of audio monitoring. Some of the laws are as old as Watergate, and they are very strict. Should you be in the U.S., it does not matter who owns the truck... it boils down to whats called a reasonable expectation of privacy. If you were to put an audio bug in the truck and be caught, you could potentially face jail time and penalty fees. Should you and your husband go to court at some point, illegally obtained audio should not be admissible, and, it may actually harm your case if YOU broke the law obtaining the audio.... regardless of how damning the audio-acquired evidence may be to your husband.

Before proceeding forward, I suggest you speak with a good attorney. If the attorney says that it is legal, consider him an idiot and get a second legal opinion.

Question... who else is in the vehicle with your husband, and what do you think he is doing wrong?
