Two story building 1 Year, 2 Months ago
I am planning to install a CCTV camera in my house. I was planning to install the camera near the garage on the first floor. I am having trouble how to wire the camera to the dvr located in the second floor. Would I have to switch to wireless to make it easier?

Cable is really your best option. You could try wireless, but you're ultimately just going to end up with a lot of distortion and static in the picture to the point that you might not even be able to see what's going on outside. This is a factor of all the other wireless equipment that's all around you every day: cell phones, wireless internet, satellite TV, and many other sources all leave a lot of background noise in the air that disrupts the wireless signal.

If you're not sure how exactly you'd need to run the cable, it might be better for you to find a licensed electrician in your area to do the install for you - there are quite a few tricks they can employ (for instance, running cable behind gutter downspouts) to get the signal up to your second story.

I'd be happy to recommend a camera, I just have a few questions first. What is your lighting situation like, and how far must the camera be able to see clearly (in order to, say, identify a face)?

As far as install goes, though, stucco is a very difficult medium to work with when installing a camera and can be very challenging even for experienced installers. As I said before, the best advice I can give you would be to find an experienced electrical installer in your area and have him run the cable for you; it'll cost more but will be infinitely less stressful for you and probably be a lot faster, too.
