The Praline Connection

Background

The Praline Connection got its start as a home delivery service targeting career women who were too busy to prepare home cooked meals for their families. Since 1990 with the opening of their first location on Frenchman Street in New Orleans, The Praline Connection has become renowned for their famous handmade pralines and "down-home" Cajun-Creole style soul-food. They have enjoyed continued growth with the addition and then expansion of their uptown warehouse district location, The Praline Connection Gospel and Blues Hall, and the addition of the Praline Connection Candy & Gift Store at the New Orleans International Airport. A favorite with locals and tourists alike,The Praline Connection is poised for continued growth and expansion.

The Challenge

With multiple locations around the New Orleans metropolitan area, The Praline Connection's management had multiple logistical and security concerns. Owner Cecil Kaigler needs the flexibility to remotely manage his staff and keep an eye on his multiple locations. In addition to the normal employee productivity concerns facing most management, The Praline Connection employs temporary employees and experiences the higher employee turn over rate associated with the restaurant industry after Hurricane Katrina. In effort to ensure the highest level of protection for staff members and customers alike, management wanted to offer the added benefit of video surveillance for the interior and exterior of their facilities. Theft reduction, employee productivity and employee and customer safety are of paramount concern. Having locations in historical areas of the city, Cecil needed cameras that could see in extremely low light, yet be low-profile as not to deter from the beauty of the French Quarter.

The Solution

By coupling low-light weatherproof bullet cameras with a PC-Witness Pro series DVR , Cecil was able to maintain the ascetics of his locations, while gaining a high-resolution digital CCTV system that could be monitored anywhere in the World via the Internet. In addition to valuable peace of mind, management has seen financial benefits from the PC-Witness video surveillance system. Mr. Kaigler credits his system with helping to reduce theft, deterring undesirable behavior and combating wrongful termination woes. Features such as motion detection and alarm notification via cell phone, e-mail or telephone give added versatility and control. The ability to see and visually document incidents on the inside and outside have paid off in multiple ways. In addition to providing excellent employee management tools, the system was instrumental identifying a gunman of a tragic incident that occurred across the street from one of their locations. Mr. Kaigler credits the PC-Witness system with being the “most valuable piece of equipment I own.”
